Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita

For years, declining birth rates have forced what's left of the human race to cede more and more territory to other beings who have appeared to take advantage of the emptying ecological niche. Now, only a handful of humans remain among the remnants of civilization and Earth is dominated by faeries —tiny, ten-inch tall creatures of surprising intelligence. But humanity's importance isn't over quite yet, as young Watashi learns as she makes the decision to return to her hometown and assume her grandfather's position as an arbitrator between the races. Unfortunately, the job isn't going to be anywhere near as simple as she expected, and it's going to take a wisdom far beyond her years to achieve her most important mission.

DZ_1989 So, DZ review time (Spoilers, naturally, so read it when you've finished watching): The order is seemingly messed up if you think about it, aye. But after a while, you'll realize that its on purpose. Thus, its not a bad thing. There is a severe lack of names, which is a slight disappointment for me, because i was looking forward to hearing "Ah, Hajimemashite, Watashi desu" But, oh well. I mean, its possible to write a story without once mentioning a character name, but it gets a bit too blatant near the end. The theme of "Oh, Humanity as we know it is basically gone" is quite prevalent throughout the entire anime. Its subtle as well, its not actively shouting "OI, remember, Humanity has declined!" Its just in the background of it. Hell, there are so few times when it was mentioned by one of the characters that i barely even noticed it me'self. The concept of the faeries. And if you're wondering why i'm spelling it the way i am is because that's more akin to what the faeries are like here and the way they are in folklore. If they are the standard "Oh, a disney princess, quick, make her look good!" kind of fairies, then this anime would be much more uninteresting. What's a folklore faery? Well, lets look at Good ol' England for this. So, you have heard of the Fae, yes? These mystical beings that lived in the forests of the north (York) and guard their mystical lands very closely. Occasionally popping out to mess with the humans. Sometimes they do good to a particular person, sometimes its mischievous. And in some cases, you might as well think it was a declaration of war. Wild cards, are what faeries are, in those old stories. And they're quite similar here. Using their weird power mostly for their own gain, like that time they kept looping the time and making copies of the main character for sweets. And that was done by making her eat a magic banana. And in the case of the last 2 episodes were the Faeries, or just the one faery granted her a wish. To not be lonely. And in that episode that involves the waifufication of bloody deep space satellites fighting each other. The faeries sort of did what the human wanted, but also not because they also just wanted to fight and have fun. The moment they were forced to do something they were all "Oh.. fine, but i won't like it" Unless that's just me misinterpreting it. And the one kicker that got me to really enjoy this anime. Was the bright and lovely nature of it all, despite the obvious downer topic of "Oh, all the humans are slowly dying off" All in all, i must say. Top notch anime, this. Its confusing at first, but its the kind which you have to watch it to the end and comprehend what the world and its inhabitants are supposed to be. It originated from a light novel as well, i hear, so if i see it at some point when i find myself in a library during a book sale or something , i'm most definitely going to pick it up. And then take notes because i genuinely do not know how to write a story that starts in the middle of a character's story and ends where it began. Then again... Well, i'll still buy the book, but instead of taking down notes, i'll be comparing them.
